A brief comment concerning the selection of the films:

The main themes of the evening are relationships. Relationships in general but mainly
the Israeli – Palestinian ones...

The topic of Israeli - Palestinian relationships is of course much discussed as well in the Czech Republic. During the communist regime there was rather one-sided point of view, after the change of the political system we can talk about the problem in a wider ideological spectrum. But the series of dogmas and prejudices have still persisted, developed and confirmed by the media.

The aim of the evening program is to reveal the stereotypes of perceptions and dogmas and to open the discussion regarding the contemporary situation in Israel.

Layla (directed by Luna Matar) animation 2013 4'

A great animated film produced by the school, an alienating effect of program at the beginning.

The Chicken or the Egg (directed by Alon Elshaya & Eran Yehezkiel) doc. 2007 40'

Documentary about life with Gaza so close and so far. The film about external as well as very internal relationships...Screening with the participation of the author.

Poison (directed by Roni Reinhartz) fiction 2013 30'

A feature film about young girls in compulsory military training. The Israeli army and gender equality. A relationship of girls to themselves, to each other and to the world beyond the training camp. The compulsory military service of women and girls is something hardly imaginable in the Czech Republic.

Hula and Natan (directed by Robi Elmailah) doc. 2010 54'

Two "car mechanics" between car wrecks, Kassams rockets and the Israeli authorities. Documentary about two brothers’ life within striking distance of Gaza - with a strong irresistible black humor.

Your Younger Daughter Rachel (directed by Efrat Corem) fiction 2006 30'

Fine network of family relationships, first love, a universal theme across all cultures. Delicate, very delicate and sensitive acting (as well as directing). Pure beauty. Far from all wars, Kassams, military, politics.
