The AMU Library Directorate
For reasons of space and historical reasons the AMU Library Directorate is situated in the HAMU Library.

The Library Directorate is an umbrella organisation for the methodology, coordination and development of library-information services at AMU. It is not a central library in the traditional sense with a central collection.
Main tasks of the AMU Library Directorate:
- responsibility for the overall concept, coordination and development of all library-information procedures
- methodological and organisational management, building, development and administration of the Academy’s integrated library-information system
- responsibility for the overall management of the AMU Library budget
- responsibility for the AMU Library’s presentation
- creating the methodology for describing special types of documents for the specific needs of specialist AMU users, i.e. developing methodology for the detailed analytical description of audio documents, printed sheet music and video recordings
- purchasing periodicals and literature for AMU workplaces with competence for the whole Academy
- cooperating with related and relevant specialist workplaces outside AMU
- responsibility for the AMU Library’s presentation, its representation in national and international associations, projects and activities,
The Directorate does not decide on the acquisition and profiling of the faculty library collections, or on specific operational matters. These activities fall wholly within the competence of the relevant faculty library Heads.
When performing these tasks the Director cooperates with the Heads of the faculty libraries, who form a standing advisory board. Another advisory body is the AMU Library Committee. The Director also cooperates with the
AMU Computer Centre, which provides the libraries with technical support.
