Teaching Skills I: Syllabus Design (or developing Dream course)

This series of six interactive workshops introduces Ph.D. students to modern syllabus design, drawing from student-centered learning approaches preeminent in Anglophone academia. Once dismissed as a vague reference point, a well-executed syllabus is now widely accepted to provide the foundation upon which us built course design and delivery. Students shall therefore focus on six key components of such a syllabus: 1) Concept, 2) Outcomes, 3) Structure, 4) Sessions, 5) Preparation, and 6) Assessment. They shall develop their competencies in these areas by designing a syllabus for their own “Dream Course”. In so doing, these workshops aim to furnish doctoral candidates with the transferable skills needed to facilitate student engagement, student learning, and delivery of world-leading courses.

Přednášející: Dr. Richard Nowell
Historik a teoretik s více jak patnáctiletou pedagogickou praxí z českých a britských univerzit. Specializuje se na dějiny Hollywoodu v transnacionální perspektivě, produkční dějiny žánru a filmových cyklů a žánrovou teorii. Zároveň vyvíjí a vyučuje předměty pro doktorandy zaměřené na akademické znalosti týkající se například akademického psaní, publikování v odborných časopisech či pedagogické praxe. Absolvoval Univerzitu v Nottinghamu, doktorát získal na University of East Anglia. Vyučoval na Univerzitě v Heidelbergu, UEA či Anglo-American University. V současnosti přednáší na katedře Teritoriálních studií Fakulty sociálních věd Univerzity Karlovy, Ústavu filmu a audiovizuální kultury Filosofické fakulty Masarykovy Univerzity v Brně a CIEE. Autor monografie Blood Money: A History of the First Teen Slasher Cycle a editor antologie Merchants of Menace: The Business of Horror Cinema . Jeho odborné studie vyšly v Cinema Journal , New Review of Film and Television Studies nebo Journal of Film and Video .
