International exchange programmes that cover the mobility of students and academic workers play an indispensable role in the process of AMU’s internationalisation.
AMU financially supports various international activities of both students and employees – study and hands-on stays, employee mobility involving teaching and training stays and participation in seminars, workshops, courses, and competitions and festivals in Europe and elsewhere. The primary source of financing for international activities is the Erasmus+ Programme, though the overall range of mobility programmes is quite diverse. Information about the forms of support for international mobility is provided below; the current calls and opportunities are regularly published in the Current news section.
Freemover/AMU’s Institutional Plan
AMU’s Institutional Plan is based on AMU’s development priorities as described in AMU’s strategic documents. Support for internationalisation is one of the priorities, and this chapter offers the students an opportunity to go on short study and work stays outside the Erasmus to virtually anywhere in the world. It is used for supporting the stays of teachers and financing the stays of guest teachers from partner institutions. After the completion of a stay under the Institutional Plan, students are required to submit a final report to the International Affairs section of their Faculty.

Support for doctoral mobility
International experience is essential for successful doctoral studies and doctoral graduate careers. This is why AMU has prepared a programme of short-term doctoral mobility, which complements the range of other opportunities with a simple and user-friendly scheme. The maximum duration of stay is 10 calendar days. The programme is intended for the support of stays that cannot be planned one year in advance, and as such they cannot be financed using the Student Grant Competition funds, or stays shorter than the minimum duration laid down by the Erasmus+ rules. In addition to physical mobility, we also support virtual doctoral students’ mobility.

DZS/AIA – Scholarships under international agreements
Czech Republic has concluded bilateral agreements with almost 30 countries of the world through the Ministry of Education, under which partners have agreed to deepen and develop cooperation in the field of education and science. The tools for cooperation include support for student and scholar exchanges. For that purpose, countries annually offer their partners a pre-defined number of scholarship positions.
Applicants from public tertiary schools can use study stays intended for bachelor, master and doctoral students, summer language courses, and research and lecture stays for university teachers. Submitting the applications, the selection procedures and the submission and approval of nominations always happen during the academic year preceding the planned period of the stay. Repeated stays are possible. Applications are to be submitted through the Academic Information Agency (AIA).

CEEPUS
CEEPUS is a Central European university exchange programme focused on regional cooperation within university networks. Under the programme, scholarships can be obtained within networks formed by at least three universities from different states under the treaty. The universities involved in the programme cooperate in solving technical issues within their respective networks. It is also possible to apply for the programme as a “freemover” when the applicant’s home school is not involved in a suitable network. The CEEPUS treaty has been signed by Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The universities in Pristina, Prizren and Peja in Kosovo are collaborators. The programme is intended for bachelor, master and doctoral students and for academic workers of public tertiary schools. Support applies to both short-term stays and continuous long-term activities. Students may apply for grants for semestral (3- to 10-month) and short-term (1- to 2-month) study stays, summer schools (6 days minimum) and field trips (3 to 5 days). Academic workers may apply for teaching stays (5 business days minimum), summer schools, field trips, and coordination meetings.

Fulbright Scholar Programs
The prestigious Fulbright Scholar Programs financed by the Czech and US Governments offer Czech citizens the opportunity to study, conduct research, and/or teach in the USA. Individuals apply for grants directly with the Fulbright Commissions and grantees are selected in an open competition. The grants usually cover the costs of living, return tickets and health insurance or, as the case may be, certain additional costs (tuition fees in full or in part, costs of books, etc.). The principal requirements for the eligibility to apply for grants under any of the programmes include Czech citizenship, permanent residence in the Czech Republic, and an excellent knowledge of English.

International Visegrad Fund
The International Visegrad Fund is an international donor organisation founded in 2000 by the Visegrad group governments – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – in support of regional cooperation within the Visegrad Region (V4) as well as between the V4 Region and other countries, the Western Balkans Region, and the Eastern Partnership.

Visegrad Scholarship Program
Master’s and post-master’s programme students and researchers who are the citizens of V4 countries can apply for scholarships to study at an accredited university/institution within V4 as well as in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine. The deadline for applications is 15 March, 12:00 noon every year.
Visual and Sound Arts Residency
Visual and Sound Arts Residencies facilitate mobility and artistic exchange for V4 citizens in the field of visual and sound arts including design, music, video and cinema, new media, and mixed media. The deadline for applications is 15 October every year. The system opens one month before the deadline.
Performing Arts Residency
Mobility in performing arts supports innovation, experiment and creativity in theatrical arts – new drama, contemporary dance, new circus, theatre, visual theatre, alternative theatre, etc. The programme is not suitable for brick-and-mortar theatres, well-established shows or theatre festivals. The deadline for applications is 15 October every year. The system opens one month before the deadline.

AKTION – Austria
AKTION Czech Republic – Austria is a scheme to promote bilateral cooperation in science and education between the Czech Republic and Austria in the tertiary sector in all research fields. Applicants for AKTION grants in Austria may apply for study or research stays at Austrian state universities, technical tertiary schools, educational tertiary schools and accredited private universities. It is possible to apply for grants for semestral stays, short-term mobility, summer schools and/or obtain a grant for both long- and short-term institutional cooperation between university institutions in the fields of teaching, research, organisation, lectures, field trips, publication, etc. Applications may be submitted in both German and English languages.

DAAD – Germany
DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service – provides individual support to Czech students and scholars through grants. Applicants in the Czech Republic annually receive about 150 grants. Among other opportunities, DAAD offers grant programmes for art students: music, dramatic arts, design/visual communication, and cinema. The offer includes programmes for post-doctoral students and university teachers (including art) and shared project programmes (institutional cooperation). DAAD also supports study trips to Germany.

Barrande Fellowship Program – France
The French Government’s Barrande Fellowship Program allows students registered in Czech universities to obtain scholarships for doctoral studies under cotutelle (dual supervision) or for an internship of one to three months, which has to be completed at a university or research centre. The internship must serve the purpose of the candidate’s need to stay in France: the need to become conversant with specific research equipment or technique, work with material and documents not accessible in the Czech Republic, write a study related to France, or take special training in France.

EEA Grants – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway
The principal objective of the Education Programme as part of the EEA Grants is to improve the level of human capital and educational base in the Czech Republic. The Programme pursues other goals as well – reducing economic and social differences in the European Economic Area and strengthening cooperation with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The programme offers four activities: institutional cooperation programmes, student and teacher mobility projects, vocational education projects and projects in support of inclusion in education.
A project must involve at least one partner organisation in Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway – typically a school, but it also can be a private business, research centre, healthcare facility, non-profit organisation, cultural institution, etc.
