Selecting a topic is the beginning of the process of preparing your own scholarly work and of writing the text. Choose a thesis topic that corresponds to your programme of study and is also of interest to you! The thesis should address issues which are easy to grasp, can be defined unambiguously, and have not been elaborated extensively hitherto.
Enter it into KOS as a brief, very general abstract of 3-5 sentences in length, which captures the main objective and contents of the thesis. Then submit the printed and signed thesis proposal (návrh tématu kvalifikační práce) by the deadline set by the faculty calendar to the department or to the Department of Academic Affairs (Studijní oddělení), as the case may be.
You should keep to the assigned topic, or explain what led you to diverge from it. ATTENTION! After entering it into KOS, you will only be able to change your topic pursuant to the rules set by the faculty.
The title of your thesis must be unambiguous and apt. It should clearly and briefly formulate the topic of your thesis using specialist terminology.
The topic need not necessarily be identical the thesis title (the thesis title may specify the topic in greater detail).
In the case of a thesis title that was entered into KOS and subsequently approved, a change must be requested at your department or at the Department of Academic Affairs (Studijní oddělení). The consent of your thesis supervisor is required as well.
Certainly do not use slang expressions or complicated formulations in your thesis title. Remember that the title should provide basic information on the topic of your work. Keep in mind that:
• a designation of the type of work (Bachelor’s thesis, Master’s thesis, etc.) is NEVER part of the title!
• no full stop is written at the end of the title;
• dashes, parentheses and the like are not usually used in the title (see the examples below);
• nor are any other special characters used;
• the names of persons should always be written out in full.
The title can also be specified in greater detail in the “Subtitle” field. The subtitle should always begin with a lower-case letter in Czech, but is normally capitalised in English.
Examples of thesis titles:

Incorrect: PETR EBEN : ANALYSIS OF A CHAMBER WORK.
Correct: The Development of Black-and-White Photography
Incorrect: Master’s thesis: The Development of Black-and-White Photography.
Correct: Name: The Productions of John Sinclair
Subtitle: An Artistic Solution
Incorrect: The Productions of John Sinclair – An Artistic Solution.
